Our friend Wilhelm Philipp recently made the journey to one of the worlds best countries, Japan. He sent through some photos and travel notes about his observations and experiences whilst in Japan below.
I had been saving since the beginning of year 12 to travel to Japan and finally my dream became a reality. I flew over solo and met up with a friend from Melbourne with whom I traveled with for a week. Our journey took us to Tokyo, Kyoto, Naoshima and Osaka (due to a poorly timed toilet stop on my behalf and missing the last train back to Tokyo). This is a brief insight into my journey.
Tokyo especially was a crazy, rushing sea of people that never seemed to slow until the last train has left the station. Like that of an average Friday or Saturday in Australia, Tokyo would come alive every night Monday to Sunday. Clothing stores close at 9pm, everything is open late and everyone is out late, week day or weekend.
Naoshima was a beautiful art filled island, a 20 minute ferry from the mainland and very peaceful. The respect shown by locals in Japan was like nothing I've experienced before, it made you feel very welcomed and that of an equal.
